Egg Garland

This project was inspired by Pinterest.  I remember pinning it last year but never got around to making it.  This year I made sure to add it to the top of my list and gave myself a good amount of time to get it done.  This entire project took me about 20 minutes and didn't cost a thing since I used items I already had at home.
Aren't those the best kind of projects?!?

Materials:
Paint Chips
Yarn
Hole Punch
White Chalk Marker
Egg Shaped Tracer

Instructions:
I started out with paint chips I grabbed at WalMart.

Next, I used an oval/ egg cookie cutter to trace shapes on all of the paint chips.
Make sure to trace on the back, not the colored side.
Then you don't have to worry about cutting it perfect.

After that, I decorated the eggs with a chalk marker.
You could use paint but the white for the chalk marker shows up best for me.

To finish it up, I hole punched the top of the eggs and put yarn through the holes.
I used a scrapbook hole punch, smaller than the regular paper punches.
The holes were just big enough for the yarn to fit through.
That is it.  Now find the perfect place to hang it up!

Spring Banner

Materials:
Scrap Paper (I used 3 pieces of polkadot)
Scissors
Glue
Scrap Letters or Printer Letters
Yarn

Instructions:
I started with 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper (they came in a pack)
I used 7 sheets, one for a template and 6 for the banner

Next, I made a template with my extra sheet.
I would recommend using a scrap sheet of paper instead of wasting a good sheet of paper.
I folded it down the middle first.
Then, I cut up from the bottom corners until it met in the middle.

I used this piece to trace the rest for the banner.

Next, I printed out the word spring on my computer.
I created 4x4 squares in Photoshop and my letters were about 3 inches.
You could easily buy scrap letters or use a Cricut if you have one.
I find printing it to be the quickest way for me.

I trimmed the squares to fit on top of each banner piece.
I made sure all the squares were the same size.
Then, I took the banner pieces and folded them down about a half inch from the top.

I glued the letter pieces onto the banner flags.

To hang it up, I used yarn.
I measured enough for the entire banner with room at both ends.
Then, I folded the top of the banner flags over the yarn and hot glued it closed.
Make sure you are gluing the letters in the correct order.
I did them backwards the first time!

After you've done this for each flag, you're done.
Display your work with pride.

Candy Heart Valentine Frame

Here is a simple and cute Valentine's decoration for your house.

Materials:
8x10 frame
candy hearts
heart tracer
red cardstock (or your color choice)
hot glue

How it's done....
1. Take the paper out of the frame.

I made sure the background paper was the same size as the paper I was taking out.
2.  I used my Crucit to cut out a heart tracer.  I glued the tracker onto the background paper I chose, which was red card stock.

3. Put the frame back together.

4. Line up the hearts on the tracer.  I made sure to put them all on BEFORE I started gluing.
Once everything was the way I wanted it, I glued down the hearts one by one (with hot glue).

Once they are all glued down, you're done!

Turkey Wreath

How cute is this turkey wreath?  I pinned it a few weeks back and couldn't wait to make it.  You can find the original tutorial over at Baby Rabies.  I'm not going to reinvent the wheel because her tutorial is fabulous.
But, I will tell you a few things I did to save money and a trip to the store....

1.  Instead of using a styrofoam cone, I used yellow card stock.  I folded it to make a cone and hot glued the back to the wreath.
2.  I didn't use styrofoam balls for the eyes.  Again, I used card stock.  I cut 2 white circles, then two black.  I glued them together for the eyes.  Then, I glued a toothpick onto the back of the eyes and stuck it into the wreath.
3.  I didn't have yellow tulle so I used white instead.
4.  I used red felt for the waddle instead of foam.

I just love how it looks on my door!

Out of Treats

This little creation was inspired by a pin on Pinterest.  It was a last minute craft, the day before Thanksgiving.  I figured/ hoped it would keep trick or treaters from ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door after we went inside.  Unfortunately, just turning the lights out doesn't get the message across in our neighborhood.

Materials:
1 piece of wood
paint
Sharpie paint pen
ribbon
hot glue

Directions:
Paint the wood sign orange.  I painted all sides.
Then, I used the Sharpie paint pen to write "out of treats" and decorate the outside.

To hang it, I took about 24 inches of ribbon.  I folded it in the middle and hot glued it to the back of the wood.  From there I tied it into a bow.

After that, it was ready to go on the door.

The sign worked because we didn't have any trick or treaters afterwards.

Happy Crafting!

10 Minute Halloween Charger

I had a few extra minutes after I cleaned the house last week before the baby woke up.  So, I decided I would cross one of my Halloween crafts off my list.  I picked up black chargers at Hobby Lobby a few months back with the intentions of doing this project.  I used my Cricut to cut the Trick or Treat letters and white polka dots.  Then, I used the back of a paintbrush and orange acrylic paint to do the polka dots.  That is it.  Simple, Quick and Cute if I say so myself!

Mod Podge Scrapbook Wall Letters

One thing I knew from the day I found out I was pregnant was that I was going to make his/her name to hang on the wall.  I’ve seen it all over Pinterest and in many of my friends homes.  I love how it looks, especially above the crib.  When we found out our little one was a girl, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the nursery.  I wanted a grey and white room with pink accents.  We decided on one wall of horizontal stripes at the focal point for the room, it would also be the wall the crib was in front of.
As soon as that was finished, I began working on her name for the wall.  It took weeks for me finish this project.  I had to make sure to get the letters I wanted, then came the paper that had to match the nursery, from there we needed to figure out how we wanted to hang them (which I left up to hubs to decide).  I personally think they are the perfect addition to our little one’s nursery, but I’m a little partial =-)

Here is how to make them.
Materials:
Wooden letters (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)

Scrapbook Paper
Acrylic paint that matches
Mod Podge
Hot Glue
Ribbon
Scissors

Directions:

  1. Paint the outside and the edges of your letters.  I only did one coat although, it could have used two.  I knew it wouldn’t be obvious to see from far a  away and I honestly didn’t want to take the time to do it.
2. Trace the letter on scrapbook paper.  Make sure you decide which paper you want to use for which letter.  I used three different pieces of paper for this project.  When you trace the letter, flip It over and make sure you’re tracing it to the decorated side of the paper matches the top of the letter.
3. Cut out the letters.  Do this as carefully as you can so that it matches the letters perfectly,
4. Put Mod Podge on the top of the letter.  Just enough to adhere the scrapbook paper.  After a thin coat of mod podge, place the scrapbook paper on top.  Press it down so that there aren’t any bubbles or raised edges.
5. After that is dry, apply a layer of Mod Podge to the entire top and sides of the letter.  The back doesn’t matter because it won’t be visible.
6. Now you’re ready to hang it up.  I decided to glue ribbon to the back and hang the ribbon off of very thin nails in the wall. I put hubs in charge of the leveling and hanging.

There are so many things you can do with these letters from monograms in your living room to baby shower decorations to door hangers.  The possibilities are endless, ENJOY!

Spring Monogram Door Hanger

This project was pinspired, like most of my projects lately.
We've been in need of door decorations for spring and I knew this would be a quick and easy project.
All you need is a wooden letter, paint, ribbon and embellishments of your choice.
I bought a plain white letter from Michael's for about $2 (with a coupon).  I already had yellow paint at home and these little flowers with rhinestones in the middle.  I decided to paint diagonal stripes on the monogram.  I didn't measure the out the lines before I painted them.  I just freehanded it.  It's not perfect but that's what gives it character.  After the paint was dry, I hot glued the flowers onto the wooden monogram.  To finish it off, I hot glued about 8 inches of ribbon to the top of the H.  Once it was completely dry, I used the ribbon to hang it off a over the door hook.  Overall, this entire project took just 15 minutes.
My door is now one of the cutest on the block!

Cupcake Liner Wreath

I figured I better get this Valentine's Day wreath posted before March starts tomorrow.  This is one of the only craft projects I was able to complete in February.  I was inspired by a picture on pinterest and found a tutorial over at Tatertots and Jello, one of my favorite crafting blogs.  I followed all of the steps and didn't make any changes.  So, there's no point in recreating a great tutorial! So head on over and check it out.

I'll definitely be making more of these wreaths for lots of different occasions.

Wine Cork Magnets

The theme of my kitchen is wine.  You won't find all the grapes and vine decorations but you will find lots of wine bottles and corks.  I love...love...love wine. I'm always looking for DIY wine projects for the kitchen.  While cleaning up all of the baby announcements from my fridge a few weeks ago, a light bulb went off.  How cute would everything look on our fridge with wine coke magnets?  I knew I had strips of magnets in my classroom...and there is no shortage of wine corks in this house.  And that (along with some hot glue) is all I needed to create these easy & cute magnets.

Materials:
wine corks
hot glue
knife
magnets

Directions:
Cut cork in half with knife (the sharper the better)
Hot glue the magnet onto the back (flat side) of the cork. I had long strips of magnets I had to cut in half.
Let it dry & put it on the fridge!

Peppermint Wreaths

After seeing the peppermint wreaths all over Pinterest, I decided I needed to make one.  Instead of making a wreath, I did an H.  I already had one at home from JoAnn Fabrics.  I painted the H red, after it was al dry, I hot glued the peppermints on the top.  I tried to line them up before hand to make sure they all would fit.  It's not perfect, but I'm happy with how they lined up.  After that, I hot glued ribbon to the back to hang it up.  I tied the ribbon into a bow at the top and hung the center of the bow on the hook of the wreath hanger.
Love how it looks on the front door.

But, it couldn't stay there because when a little sun hit it, it started to melt!

Fall Decor

Cinnamon Stick Candles

I used a few bundles of cinnamon sticks and a tall white candle.  I had my hubs hold his hands open around the candle and I put the cinnamon sticks around it.  Once the candle was completely surrounded, I used twine to hold them together.  I did try to hot glue the cinnamon sticks together around the candle, but it didn't work.  It took 5 minutes to do once I had an extra set of hands.

Filled Vases

Popcorn seeds, split peas and red beans filled the vases in my dining room.  I used two bags of each.  I filled them and then placed a candle in the middle.  A quick and festive decoration.
